This happens mainly for two-wheelers.
When we enter a petrol bunk and ask to fill for 200/- or 100/-, first the person will fill for 50/- and then fill for the remaining amount (150 or 100).
Actually he hasn't filled for the first 50/-. Either it is the previous amount (50 being very popular amount for 2-wheelers) or a pre-programmed amount. He can make the LED display to show 50/- by pressing a single button. When we were busy opening the purse, checking the petrol, attending a mobile, he does that.
I had these experiences many times (bunks in airport road, in HSR Layout), but realized once I went and asked for a full tank. First he filled 1 litre for 50/- then he filled 13 more litres. Bill is 700. But my tank capacity is 13 litres. I asked him how it is possible then he immediately said the bill is 650 and he didn't mention anything about the first 50/-.
I have a disadvantage of being non-kannadiga. I couldn't argue much and left from there. Since then I am careful and always check whether the reading (both amount and litres) are changing.

ReplyDeleteThis happened to me with a couple of bunks in airport road, and marathahalli. I checked the mileage and the next time, I caught him, and had an argument, but I too had the same problem of being non-kannadiga. Good that you are making people aware. Hopefully some journalist can pick this up.
